Mosaic Above the Church Entrance
Above the main entrance to the church, you can see a mosaic depicting the Annunciation to the Virgin Mary. It is set within its original Baroque stucco frame. Created in 1971, the mosaic replaced an earlier painting with the same motif. Originally, however, the church façade was decorated with a different scene: the apparition of St. Francis of Assisi at the Porziuncola. In 1781, the friars replaced this image with the Annunciation so that the artwork would correspond to the church’s dedication.
The Organ in the Capuchin Church
Capuchin churches were originally very simple, which is why they lacked organs and organ lofts for many years. The same was true in Olomouc—until well into the 18th century, the friars borrowed a portable organ from the Church of St. Blaise for festive occasions.
The Death of St. Francis
The lunette above the side chapel is decorated with a painting depicting the death of St. Francis of Assisi. The saint lies humbly on the ground, surrounded by praying brothers—a scene that highlights his poverty and simplicity.
The Death of St. Joseph
The lunette above the side chapel is decorated with a painting depicting the death of St. Joseph. The reclining saint is accompanied by Christ on one side and the Virgin Mary on the other, with angels surrounding them.
Painting on the Triumphal Arch
The large space above the main altar features a mural depicting the Crucifixion of Christ. In the center is the cross with Jesus, and below it are the Virgin Mary and St. John the Evangelist.
Painting on the gallery
On the lower part of the gallery, you will find a decorative painting featuring a Franciscan symbol. At its center is an emblem showing the outstretched arms of Christ and St. Francis of Assisi set against the background of a cross.
The Stations of the Cross
The church contains a series of Stations of the Cross paintings created in 1880 by Adolf Rübenolt. These artworks depict the final moments of Jesus Christ’s life on Earth.
Altar Painting of St. Francis
The altar displays a painting of St. Francis of Assisi kneeling before an altar strewn with roses. Before him, Christ appears holding the cross.
